Subcortical Band Heterotopia

  • Subcortical band heterotopia often referred to as double cortex is a neuronal migrational anomaly primarily found in females. It is an X linked dominant disorder due to mutation in DCX gene. Small percentage of cases have been reported due to deletion on chromosome 17 involving the LIS1 gene. MR imaging typically depicts a subcortical band of varying thickness isointense to the gray matter paralleling the cortex.
